Liverpool Midfielder Joe Cole |
Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole insists the club have a realistic chance of finishing in the top four and winning the Europa League.
The 29-year-old made his first start in five weeks during the Reds 1-1 draw against Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League on Thursday.
Now the focus is back on the Premier League, where Roy Hodgson's side are lying 10th in the standings and seven points behind fourth-place Manchester City.
Despite the club's poor start to the season, Cole is adamant the Anfield club can still regain their top-four status and qualify for the Champions League next season.
"I'm happy with how things are going and I still think top four is a realistic target," Cole was quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.
"It would be outstanding for the club, considering where we are. We have got a new manager, new owners, new staff behind the scenes.
"There has been a big turnover. The top four is realistic and it would be a great achievement to do that.
Shifting his thoughts to Europe, the former Chelsea player believes the club will go all out to win the Europa League.
"But the Europa League is very important to us too. We have two realistic chances of winning silverware. This is one of them."
Cole will need to turn words into action when Liverpool take on Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday
