Argentina knocked out of Copa America 2011 by Uruguay

The struggling journey of Argentina ended up in the penalty shoot out with Uruguay in the quarter final of Copa America 2011. The starting play in the Cup was also not good by Argentina as it played two draw matches and won the other match.
In the quarter final match with Uruguay, Uruguay took an early lead through Diego Perez, who was then
sent off seven minutes before half time. Argentina equalised through Gonzalo Higuain and saw Javier Mascherano red carded shortly before the end of the 90 minutes. Uruguay knocked out the pre-tournament favourites 5-4 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 in regulation.

A Carlos Tevez miss in the shoot-out proved costly as Martin Caceres fired home the winning kick to knock out the hosts. Despite the quarter-final elimination, coach Sergio Batista dismissed the notion that his team's departure from the tournament as a failure.
